Sick leave in Kuwait: days and pay
Kuwait allows up to 75 days of sick leave a year, paid on a sliding scale (Kuwait Labour Law No. 6/2010, Art. 69).
In full: 15 days full pay, 10 days at 75%, 10 days at 50%, 10 days at 25%, then 30 days unpaid per year.
The pay bands
| Days | Pay |
|---|---|
| Days 1–15 (15 days) | Full pay |
| Days 16–25 (10 days) | 75% of the wage |
| Days 26–35 (10 days) | 50% of the wage |
| Days 36–45 (10 days) | 25% of the wage |
| Days 46–75 (30 days) | Unpaid |
45 days of the 75 days are paid; the rest are unpaid but still count as sick leave.
Falling sick during annual leave
If an employee falls ill during annual leave with a medical certificate, the sick days do not use up annual leave (Kuwait Labour Law 6/2010, Art. 70).
